Internxt Send is a free file transfer tool from Internxt, a company known for privacy-focused cloud storage. Its pitch is simple: send a file up to 5 GB without signing up, and the file is encrypted on your device before it leaves. For many people that is an easy first choice. Some look for an alternative for other reasons: they want a code and QR code instead of a link, they want the same tool on a phone and a laptop, or they want a free transfer that does not depend on email. Rapidfile is one option. It offers smaller free transfers, so this page sets out the trade-offs plainly.

Where Internxt Send is the stronger pick
Being honest about this saves you time:
- A bigger free transfer without an account. Internxt's site lists up to 5 GB per transfer with no sign-up. Rapidfile's no-account limit is 500 MB, and its free-account limit is 2 GB. If your file is between 2 GB and 5 GB and you do not want to create an account, Internxt Send is the simpler route.
- Zero-knowledge encryption. Internxt describes its encryption as zero-knowledge, with keys managed on your device. Rapidfile is not end-to-end encrypted. For confidential material that you do not want the service to read, Internxt Send is the better fit.
- Sending by email. Internxt's site describes sending by link or by email. Rapidfile does not email links to recipients. You copy the link or code and send it yourself.
- A wider Internxt ecosystem. If you already use Internxt Drive for storage, Send sits alongside it. Drive offers password-protected sharing for larger or longer-lived files.
If encryption from the service side is your priority and a 5 GB limit suits your file, start with Internxt Send. For a broader view of free options, read our comparison of free file transfer services.
Where Rapidfile fits better
- Codes and QR codes. Each transfer has a 6-digit code and a QR code. Someone in the room types the code at rapidfile.cc/receive, or scans the QR code with the Rapidfile app. It is faster than reading out a long link.
- Apps for desktop and Android. On Mac and Windows, right-click a file in Finder or File Explorer and choose "Rapidfile: Get link" or "Send to my devices". The Android app adds share-sheet support and QR scanning.
- Command line. The CLI runs on Node 18 or newer with no extra dependencies, and
rapidfile send <path>sends a file from a terminal. A plaincurlupload also works, which suits scripts and automated jobs. - Expiry choices. Free links last 1 hour, 1 day or 3 days (7 days with a free account), and you can delete a transfer early. Plus extends links to 14 days and Pro to 30 days.
- A password and a download limit. Each transfer can take an optional password and a download limit. See password-protected file sharing.
- Folders without zipping first. Drag a folder into the uploader and it is zipped in your browser with its structure kept. See sending a folder online.
Encryption and what it means for you
Internxt describes zero-knowledge encryption for Send, which means the keys are managed on your device rather than on Internxt's servers. Rapidfile takes a different approach. It uses TLS for the connection and encrypts stored files at rest on Cloudflare's network. Every upload is scanned with ClamAV, an open-source virus scanner, and flagged files show a warning with a "Download anyway" option.
Those protections guard the connection and stored data. They do not stop the service from reading the file. For ordinary documents, photos and video, that is often acceptable. For confidential material, choose a service that offers end-to-end or zero-knowledge encryption. A password on a Rapidfile transfer helps control who opens the link, but it is not a replacement for encryption.
Size and expiry on the free plans
Internxt's 5 GB limit is generous for a free tool. Rapidfile's free plan works in two steps. Up to 500 MB needs no account. A free account raises the limit to 2 GB per transfer. For files over 2 GB, Rapidfile's Plus plan allows 10 GB per transfer at $3.99 a month, and Pro allows 50 GB at $7.99 a month. Check Internxt's site for the size and the expiry it applies to your transfer.
Rapidfile's free links last 1 hour, 1 day or 3 days (7 days with a free account), so you choose the window that fits the recipient. Internxt's page says links expire automatically but does not state a duration, so check its site if the timing matters.
The free daily quota on Rapidfile is 200 transfers or 50 GB, with no monthly transfer counter. The free plan is supported by ads, and Plus and Pro remove ads on all Rapidfile products and apps.
Moving a file from Internxt Send to Rapidfile
If a file is under 2 GB and does not need end-to-end encryption, the switch is quick:
- Open rapidfile.cc on the device you use most. Files up to 500 MB need no account, and up to 2 GB needs a free account.
- Choose an expiry time, and add a password or download limit if you want one.
- Copy the link or the 6-digit code into your message, or show the QR code.
- Your recipient opens the link or types the code at rapidfile.cc/receive. They do not need an account or an app.
For a transfer between 2 GB and 5 GB, you have two real options. Internxt Send accepts it without an account. On Rapidfile you would need to split the file into parts, which adds work for the recipient, who then has to download and join several pieces. For files of that size, Internxt Send is usually the simpler route.
Which one should you use?
Use Internxt Send when you need a free transfer of up to 5 GB without signing up and zero-knowledge encryption matters for the file. Use Rapidfile when your files are 2 GB or under, you want codes, QR codes and apps for desktop and Android, or you prefer to choose the expiry window yourself. Check both sites for current limits before you send anything important.
