A Tresorit Send Alternative for Quick, Everyday Transfers

Tresorit Send offers free end-to-end encrypted transfers, which Rapidfile does not. Rapidfile is a faster option for everyday files, with codes and QR codes. This page explains the difference so you can pick the right one.

Up to 500 MB · Sign in for 2 GB

Step by step

  1. Add your files

Drop files or a whole folder onto the uploader at rapidfile.cc, or tap to pick them on a phone.

  2. Pick the options

Choose an expiry time, and optionally add a password, a download limit, a title or a message.

  3. Share the link, code or QR

Send the link, read out the 6-digit code, or let the other person scan the QR code.

  4. Recipient downloads

They open the link, or go to rapidfile.cc/receive and type the code. You can close your tab once the upload finishes.

Tresorit is known for end-to-end encrypted cloud storage, and Tresorit Send extends that to one-off transfers. The service describes big-file sending as free, and its support documentation says files are encrypted on your device before they leave it. That is a meaningful difference from Rapidfile, which is not end-to-end encrypted. This page sets out the two side by side, starting with the place where Tresorit is clearly the stronger choice, and then explaining where Rapidfile is a better match for everyday sends.

Where Tresorit Send is the stronger pick

Being honest about this saves you time:

  • End-to-end encryption. This is the main reason to choose Tresorit. If the file contains client data, personal records or anything you would not want a third party to read, end-to-end encryption is a real advantage. Rapidfile does not offer it, so do not use Rapidfile as your only protection for that kind of material.
  • Possibly larger free uploads. Tresorit's support article lists a 5 GB maximum per upload, which is more than the 2 GB Rapidfile allows with a free account. Check their site to confirm the figure that applies to your use, because their documentation also lists smaller limits for other sharing methods.
  • A wider Tresorit ecosystem. If your organization already uses Tresorit for storage, Send fits into the same account and policies.

If encryption is non-negotiable, start with Tresorit Send. For a broader view of the free options, see our comparison of free file transfer services.

Where Rapidfile fits better

  • Codes and QR codes. Each transfer has a 6-digit code and a QR code. Someone in the room types the code at rapidfile.cc/receive or scans the QR code with the Rapidfile app. This is quicker than sharing a long link in a meeting.
  • No account for everyday files. Files up to 500 MB need no sign-in on your side. See sending files without signing up.
  • Apps for every desktop and Android. The Mac and Windows apps let you right-click a file and choose "Rapidfile: Get link". The Android app adds share-sheet support and QR scanning. The CLI runs on Node 18 or newer, and rapidfile send <path> works from a terminal or a script.
  • Clear expiry options. Free links last 1 hour, 1 day or 3 days (7 days with a free account), and you can delete a transfer early. Paid plans extend the window to 14 or 30 days.
  • Folders without zipping first. Drag a folder into the uploader and it is zipped in your browser with its structure kept. See sending a folder online.

Encryption: what each one protects

End-to-end encryption means the file is encrypted on your device before upload, and only the people with the key can read it. Tresorit's documentation describes that model for Send. Rapidfile works differently. Files are encrypted in transit with TLS and at rest on Cloudflare's network, and every upload is scanned with ClamAV, an open-source virus scanner. Flagged files show a warning with a "Download anyway" option.

Those protections guard against eavesdropping on the connection and against unauthorized access to stored files. They do not hide the file contents from the service itself. That is the gap that matters for sensitive material, and it is why this page recommends Tresorit for that case.

A password on a Rapidfile transfer adds a layer for the recipient, but it is not end-to-end encryption. Treat it as access control, not as a substitute.

Steps for a quick send with Rapidfile

  1. Open rapidfile.cc on the device you use most. Files up to 500 MB need no account.
  2. Choose an expiry, and add a password or download limit if you want one.
  3. Copy the link, read out the 6-digit code, or show the QR code.
  4. For files up to 2 GB, sign in with a free Enzonic account first.

Your recipient does not need to install anything. They open the link or type the code at /receive.

Rapidfile's free plan and ads

The free plan is ad-supported, so you may see advertising on the upload and download pages. Plus and Pro remove ads on all Rapidfile products and apps. If ads are a problem for you, or you send files often, the paid plans are the way to remove them. This is a real trade-off, and some people will prefer a service without ads, even if it costs more.

What to check on Tresorit's site first

Some points that decide this choice were not confirmed on the pages we could read. Before you rely on Tresorit Send for a particular file, check its site for four things: whether a free account or email address is needed, how long a free link lasts, the download limit for each file, and whether you can set a password. Tresorit's support material we read lists a 5 GB maximum per upload, along with a download limit, but it also shows smaller figures for other sharing methods. Treat the number in the service itself, at the time you send, as the one that counts.

Compare those answers with the Rapidfile figures above. Rapidfile's limits are the ones listed on its website and in this guide. If the two services look close on size and expiry, let encryption decide. If the file is ordinary, the quicker Rapidfile workflow with codes and QR codes may suit you better.

Which one should you use?

Use Tresorit Send when the file is sensitive enough that end-to-end encryption matters, and you have checked its current limits. Use Rapidfile when the file is ordinary, you want to send it quickly to someone who may be on any device, and a 2 GB limit, a 7-day free link and an ad-supported plan are acceptable. For anything you would be uncomfortable seeing on a server, choose the encrypted option.

FAQ

Is Tresorit Send end-to-end encrypted?

Yes. Tresorit's support documentation says files are end-to-end encrypted on your device before upload. Rapidfile is not end-to-end encrypted.

Is Rapidfile as secure as Tresorit Send?

Not in the same sense. Rapidfile encrypts files in transit with TLS and at rest, and scans uploads for malware, but it is not end-to-end encrypted, so the service can access the files. For highly sensitive material, choose a service that offers end-to-end encryption.

What is the largest free transfer on Rapidfile?

Without an account, 500 MB per transfer. With a free account, 2 GB. The Plus plan allows 10 GB and Pro allows 50 GB per transfer.

How long does a Rapidfile link last?

On the free plan, 1 hour, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days. Plus allows up to 14 days and Pro allows up to 30 days.

Do recipients need an account for Rapidfile?

No. They open the link in a browser or type the 6-digit code at rapidfile.cc/receive. The Android app can also scan the QR code.

Does Rapidfile have ads?

The free plan is ad-supported. Plus and Pro remove ads on all Rapidfile products and apps.
