Pixeldrain is a file hosting service. You upload a file, get a link, and share it with people who need it. It is a popular choice for large files and for people who want a link that does not require an account to download. Pixeldrain also offers a paid Pro plan with higher limits and longer retention. Its free service keeps files available as long as they are downloaded, so a file that people keep using stays online. A file that nobody touches for a while is removed. People look for a Pixeldrain alternative when a file has been deleted, when they want a link that ends on a known date, or when a host is more than they need for a single send. Rapidfile is one option for those cases.

Where Pixeldrain is the stronger pick
Pixeldrain has real strengths for the right job:
- Files people download repeatedly. If a file is meant to be fetched again and again over a long period, a host is built for that, and the link keeps working while people use it.
- A paid plan for more space and time. Pixeldrain's Pro plan is aimed at people who need more room and longer retention than the free service gives. Compare what Pro changes against your needs before you pay.
- A straightforward link. For many people, the appeal is a single link that works in a browser, with no sign-in needed to download.
If you want a file to stay on a host for a long time, and you have read Pixeldrain's current rules for how long files are kept, it may be the right choice. For a wider look at the options, read our comparison of free file transfer services.
Where Rapidfile fits better
- You choose when the file goes. A Rapidfile link on the free plan lasts 1 hour, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days, and then the file is deleted. You can also delete a transfer early. Read more in our guide to expiring file links.
- Codes and QR codes. Every transfer gets a 6-digit code and a QR code. Someone can type the code at rapidfile.cc/receive, or scan the QR code with the Rapidfile app on Android.
- Password and download limits. A transfer can require a password, or stop after a set number of downloads. That suits a file meant for one person or a small group.
- Folders without zipping by hand. Drop a folder onto the uploader and it is zipped in your browser with its structure kept. The folder sharing guide has the details.
- Desktop and Android apps. In the Mac and Windows apps, right-click any file in Finder or File Explorer and choose "Rapidfile: Get link" or "Send to my devices". On Android, the share sheet gives you "Get link" directly.
- Ad-free paid plans. The free plan is ad-supported. Plus and Pro remove ads on all Rapidfile products and apps.
Retention: what keeps a file alive
Pixeldrain's rule is that files which are not downloaded for a set period are removed. That rule can make a file last a long time if people keep fetching it, and it can also make a file disappear on a quiet week. Check its terms and the account page for the current period and how it differs between free and paid accounts. Do not rely on a number from a summary.
Rapidfile works on a different principle. A transfer lasts for the time you chose when you sent it. Downloads do not extend it, and removal happens when the time is up. That makes the outcome predictable for a single send. If you need a file to stay available for as long as you keep it, Rapidfile's storage products are a better fit. Rapidfile Media keeps images and videos until you delete them, and the Upload API keeps files for developers' apps until they are deleted.
Images and video
Pixeldrain is also used for images and video, and people often host photos there to share in forums or on social media. If that is your use, Rapidfile Media is the closer comparison. It gives images and videos direct CDN links, embeds and a custom video player. The free plan includes 1 GB of storage, 200,000 CDN requests a day and files up to 100 MB. Paid Creator and Studio plans add more storage, requests and file size. Check the Media pricing page for the current plan details at media.rapidfile.cc/pricing.
For a single photo or video sent to a person, the transfer service is usually the simpler choice, because it does not leave the file online after the link expires.
Privacy and encryption
Rapidfile uses TLS for transfers and encrypts stored files at rest on Cloudflare's network. Every upload is scanned with ClamAV, an open-source virus scanner.
Rapidfile is not end-to-end encrypted. A password on a transfer controls who can open it, but it is a form of access control and not end-to-end encryption. Before you upload anything sensitive to any hosting service, read its privacy and terms pages, and decide whether a tool with end-to-end encryption is the right fit for that file.
Moving a file from Pixeldrain to Rapidfile
If a file is hosted on Pixeldrain and you want to pass it on with a link that expires:
- Download the file from Pixeldrain to the device you are using.
- Open rapidfile.cc, or the Rapidfile app, and drop the file in.
- Choose an expiry time, and optionally add a password or a download limit.
- Send the link or the 6-digit code. Rapidfile does not email the link for you.
Files up to 500 MB need no account. For larger files, sign in with a free Enzonic account. Recipients need nothing new.
Which one should you use?
Use Pixeldrain when you want a host for a file that people will keep downloading, and you have checked its current retention rules and prices. Use Rapidfile when you want to send a file, choose how long the link works, and have the file removed when that time ends. For images and video that must stay online with direct links, compare Rapidfile Media with Pixeldrain's own pricing before you decide.
FAQ
Is Pixeldrain free?
Pixeldrain has a free service and a paid Pro plan. Free limits, retention and Pro prices change, so check pixeldrain.com for the current figures before you rely on a number.
Why did a Pixeldrain file disappear?
Pixeldrain removes files that have not been downloaded for a set period, and the window depends on the account type. Check its terms and account pages for the current rule.
How big a file can I send with Rapidfile?
Up to 500 MB per transfer without an account, and up to 2 GB per transfer with a free account. Plus raises the limit to 10 GB and Pro to 50 GB per transfer.
How long does a Rapidfile link last?
On the free plan you can choose 1 hour, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days. Plus allows up to 14 days and Pro up to 30 days. The file is deleted when the link expires.
Can the person downloading my file use Rapidfile without an account?
Yes. They open the link in any browser, or go to rapidfile.cc/receive and type the 6-digit code. No account or app is needed.
Is Rapidfile end-to-end encrypted?
No. Files are protected with TLS in transit and encrypted at rest, but Rapidfile is not end-to-end encrypted. For the most sensitive files, use a tool that offers end-to-end encryption.
