A Free MASV Alternative for Everyday File Transfers

MASV moves very large media files over an accelerated network and charges by the gigabyte. Rapidfile is a simpler option for everyday sends, with a free tier, 6-digit codes and flat monthly plans. Here is how the two compare.

Up to 500 MB · Sign in for 2 GB

Step by step

  1. Add your files

Drop files or a whole folder onto the uploader at rapidfile.cc, or tap to pick them on a phone.

  2. Pick the options

Choose an expiry time, and optionally add a password, a download limit, a title or a message.

  3. Share the link, code or QR

Send the link, read out the 6-digit code, or let the other person scan the QR code.

  4. Recipient downloads

They open the link, or go to rapidfile.cc/receive and type the code. You can close your tab once the upload finishes.

MASV is a file transfer service built for large media. Video, audio and image teams use it to move big batches between editors, studios and clients, and it charges by the gigabyte rather than by a flat plan. That model suits some projects well. It also leads people to look for an alternative: they want a predictable monthly price, they only send a file now and then, or they need a simpler tool for a file that is nowhere near the size of a full edit library. Rapidfile covers the everyday end of that range. This page sets out what each service is for, where each one fits better, and how to choose.

Where MASV is the stronger pick

Being honest about this saves you time:

  • Accelerated delivery for very large files. MASV says files shared through it enter its accelerated cloud network. If you are moving multi-terabyte batches of footage against a deadline, that is the kind of job the service is designed for. Rapidfile is not an accelerated media pipeline.
  • Branded portals and multi-destination delivery. MASV describes branded portals for external collaborators, and delivery to one or several destinations at once. Rapidfile has no equivalent portal, so it suits one-to-one or one-to-few sends.
  • No contract on pay-as-you-go. MASV's On-Demand plan has no contract and no cap on how much you can send. For a project that needs a lot of data for a few weeks and very little after, that model can be a good fit.
  • API automation on higher tiers. MASV lists API-driven transfer automation on its Platform tier. Rapidfile's Upload API is a different product: persistent storage for developers' apps, not delivery to clients.

If your work is a steady flow of large media for clients and deadlines matter more than cost, MASV's feature set is built for that.

Where Rapidfile fits better

  • A flat monthly price. Rapidfile Plus is $3.99 a month and Pro is $7.99 a month. You do not pay per gigabyte, so the bill for a light month is the same as for a busy one, within the plan limits.
  • No account for small sends. Files up to 500 MB go through without signing in. A free Enzonic account unlocks 2 GB per transfer. See sending files without signing up for the details.
  • Codes and QR codes. Every transfer has a link, a 6-digit code and a QR code. Someone on set or in the same room can type the code at rapidfile.cc/receive or scan the QR code with the Rapidfile app.
  • Protection and control. You can add an optional password, a download limit, and a link that expires after 1 hour, 1 day or 3 days (7 days with a free account). You can also delete a transfer early. More on this in password-protected file sharing.
  • Folders without zipping first. Drag a folder into the uploader and it is zipped in your browser with its structure kept. See sending a folder online.
  • Desktop and phone apps. On Mac and Windows, right-click a file in Finder or File Explorer and choose "Rapidfile: Get link" or "Send to my devices". The Android app adds share-sheet support.

Speed, size and daily limits

Large media needs a clear view of the limits, so here they are in full. Free users can send up to 2 GB per transfer after signing in, and the free daily quota is 200 transfers or 50 GB. Plus allows 10 GB per transfer and 200 GB of sending per day. Pro allows 50 GB per transfer and 1 TB of sending per day.

These figures suit a camera card, a set of cut clips or a client review pack. They do not replace an accelerated service for a full production library. If your files are routinely above 50 GB, MASV's accelerated network is the better place to start, and you should check its site for the per-transfer and per-project limits that apply to you.

A rough cost comparison

Pay-as-you-go pricing is easiest to judge with a worked example. Using MASV's published rate of $0.25 per GB and its 15 GB monthly credit, sending 100 GB in one month would bill 85 GB after the credit, which is about $21.25. Confirm how the credit applies to your account on MASV's site, because the monthly credit and your usage pattern both change the final number.

A practical test helps here. If the file fits within your Rapidfile plan's per-transfer limit and you can wait for it to upload, Rapidfile is the simpler tool. If upload time or size is the main problem, try both services on a real file from your project before you commit to either one.

On Rapidfile, the same 100 GB can go as two 50 GB transfers on Pro, within the daily quota. The Pro plan costs $7.99 for the month. That comparison favours Rapidfile for steady, moderate volumes. It does not show what happens with a single 500 GB delivery, where MASV's design is the relevant one.

Moving a one-off send to Rapidfile

If you have a file that does not need MASV's accelerated delivery, the change is quick:

  1. Open rapidfile.cc on the computer or phone you use. Files up to 500 MB need no account, and 2 GB needs a free account.
  2. Choose an expiry time, and add a password or download limit if the file needs one.
  3. Copy the link or the 6-digit code into your message. Rapidfile does not send an email to your recipient, so you share the link yourself.
  4. Your recipient opens the link in a browser or types the code at rapidfile.cc/receive. They do not need an account.

Which one should you use?

Choose MASV when you move very large media on a deadline, need branded portals or multi-destination delivery, or want API automation for a production pipeline. Choose Rapidfile when your files are ordinary in size, you want a flat monthly price, or you want codes, QR codes and apps for quick sends. If your monthly volume is small, the free plan and a single Plus or Pro month may cost less than pay-as-you-go. Compare both prices on each site before you commit.
