Gofile is a file hosting service. You upload a file, you get a link, and you share that link with anyone who should be able to download it. It is popular with people who want to share a file without making an account, and it is often used for files that the uploader wants to leave available for a while. Because Gofile is built as a host rather than a one-off transfer tool, the rules about how long a file stays online matter a great deal. People look for a Gofile alternative for a few reasons: a file has gone missing, they need a link that will last a known amount of time, or they want a transfer that expires on purpose. Rapidfile is one option for those cases.
The short version
| Gofile | Rapidfile (free) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | File hosting with download links | Transfers with a link, 6-digit code and QR code |
| Account | Check gofile.io for whether an account is needed | None up to 500 MB; free account for up to 2 GB |
| Size per file | Check gofile.io for current limits | 500 MB without an account; 2 GB with a free account |
| How long files stay | Governed by its activity rules; check its terms | 1 hour, 1 day or 3 days (7 days with a free account), chosen by you |
| Paid option | A premium tier; check prices on gofile.io | Plus $3.99 a month; Pro $7.99 a month |
| Recipient needs | A browser to open the link | A browser, or the 6-digit code at rapidfile.cc/receive |
Gofile limits, prices and rules change, so the Gofile column points to its site rather than repeating numbers that could be out of date. Rapidfile figures are current as of October 2026.
Where Gofile is the stronger pick
Gofile suits a few jobs well:
- Keeping a file online for people who return to it. If you want a set of files to stay available for others to download over a longer stretch of time, a host is built for that. A transfer link is not.
- Sharing without signing up. For many people, the appeal is that a link can be shared without creating an account. Check Gofile's site for the current account rules before you rely on that.
- A paid tier for more control. Gofile offers a premium tier. Look at what it changes, such as how long files are kept, before you pay for it.
If your aim is to publish a file that people can come back to over weeks or months, and you have read Gofile's rules on inactivity, Gofile is built for that kind of hosting. For a wider look at the options, see our comparison of free file transfer services.
Where Rapidfile fits better
- Expiry you set. You pick the link's life on the free plan: 1 hour, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days. When it runs out, the file is deleted automatically. You can also delete a transfer early. Our guide to expiring file links explains how this works.
- Codes and QR codes. Every transfer comes with a 6-digit code and a QR code. Someone can type the code at rapidfile.cc/receive, or scan the QR code with the Rapidfile app on Android.
- Password and download limit. A transfer can be protected with a password, or capped at a set number of downloads. Both are useful when a file should reach one person, or only a few.
- Folders. Drop a folder onto the uploader and it is zipped in your browser with its structure kept. The steps are in our folder sharing guide.
- Apps for desktop and Android. In the Mac and Windows apps, right-click any file in Finder or File Explorer and choose "Rapidfile: Get link" or "Send to my devices". The Android app adds share-sheet support.
- Ad-free paid plans. The free plan is ad-supported. Plus and Pro remove ads on all Rapidfile products and apps.
How inactivity affects a file
Gofile's rules for files that nobody downloads are the most important thing to check before you rely on it. Hosts of this kind often remove files that have not been accessed for a set period, and that period can differ between account types. Gofile's terms set out its own rules and numbers, so read them there rather than relying on a summary.
Rapidfile works differently by design. A transfer lasts for the time you chose when you sent it. It is not kept alive by downloads, and it is removed when the time is up. That makes it predictable for a one-off send, but it is not a host. If you need a file to stay online for as long as you keep it, Rapidfile Media keeps images and videos until you delete them, and the Upload API keeps files for developers' apps until they are deleted.
Transfer or hosting: which do you need?
The two kinds of service solve different problems. A transfer is for a single handover: you want a file to reach someone, and then you want it gone. A host is for a file people should be able to find again.
Rapidfile is a transfer service first. If you want to send a presentation, a set of photos or a project folder to a client, the link, code and expiry model fits. If you want a public file to stay available, or a file that many people will download over a long period, a host or one of Rapidfile's storage products is the better match. Rapidfile Media is aimed at images and videos, with direct CDN links and an embeddable player. The Upload API is for developers who want to store files inside their own apps.
Privacy and encryption
Rapidfile uses TLS for transfers and encrypts stored files at rest on Cloudflare's network. Every upload is scanned with ClamAV, an open-source virus scanner. Flagged files show a warning and a "Download anyway" option.
Rapidfile is not end-to-end encrypted. It also does not email the link for you. You share the link, code or QR code yourself, through whatever channel you choose.
Check Gofile's privacy and terms pages for how it stores and handles files before you upload anything sensitive. If you are choosing a service for material that must stay private from the provider, neither a host nor a standard transfer service is the right fit, and you should look for a tool that offers end-to-end encryption.
Moving a file from Gofile to Rapidfile
If a file is already on Gofile and you want to pass it on with a limited life:
- Download the file from Gofile to the device you are using.
- Open rapidfile.cc, or the Rapidfile app, and add the file.
- Choose an expiry time, and optionally add a password or a download limit.
- Send the link or the 6-digit code. Rapidfile does not email the link to your recipient.
Files up to 500 MB need no account. For larger files, sign in with a free Enzonic account. The recipient needs nothing new.
Which one should you use?
Use Gofile when you want a file hosted behind a link that people can return to, and you have checked its current rules for how long files are kept. Use Rapidfile when you want to send a file to someone, set how long the link works, and have it removed when that time is up. For files that must stay online for a long time, compare Rapidfile Media or a host with an explicit retention policy before you choose.
FAQ
Is Gofile free to use?
Gofile offers a free service and a paid premium tier. Its terms and prices change, so check gofile.io for the current limits and what the premium tier includes.
Why do Gofile files disappear?
Gofile removes files that are not accessed for a period of time. The exact window and the rules for each account type are in Gofile's terms, so check them before you rely on a link staying live.
How long does a Rapidfile link last?
On the free plan you can choose 1 hour, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days. Plus allows links up to 14 days and Pro up to 30 days. The file is deleted when the link expires.
Can the person downloading my file use Rapidfile without an account?
Yes. They open the link in a browser, or go to rapidfile.cc/receive and type the 6-digit code. No account or app is needed.
Is Rapidfile good for files I want to host long term?
For a transfer, no. Transfers are removed at expiry. For images and videos that need to stay online with direct links, Rapidfile Media keeps files until you delete them, on free and paid plans.
Is Rapidfile end-to-end encrypted?
No. Files are protected with TLS in transit and encrypted at rest, but Rapidfile is not end-to-end encrypted. For the most sensitive files, use a tool that offers end-to-end encryption.
